What is Rock Steady Boxing?
Rock Steady Boxing (RSB), the first and only boxing program of its kind in the country, was founded in Indianapolis in 2006 by former Marion County Prosecutor, Scott C. Newman, who is living with Parkinson’s. RSB gives people with Parkinson’s disease hope by improving their quality of life through a non-contact boxing based fitness curriculum.
Since 2006, RSB has grown to over 800 affiliates in the US and internationally. RSB San Francisco was the first Northern California affiliate and started classes in June 2014.
RSB uses boxing-inspired exercises, circuit training, and functional movements to improve balance, agility, speed, and other motor skills. Exercises include punching a heavy bag, footwork, stretching, resistance exercises, and aerobic training.
We offer in-person, gym classes at HitFit SF, 2345 Harrison Street, San Francisco, CA along with virtual Zoom classes six days a week. Email us to schedule your assessment today!
How do I start?
Nearly everyone with Parkinson’s disease can participate and receive benefit from Rock Steady Boxing. In order to get started, each participant needs to schedule an individual assessment to determine physical ability, balance, gait and cognitive function. The assessment is approximately 90 minutes long at a cost of $150 which includes a free introductory class.
